Cardiac Anesthesia Department

The Cardiac anesthesiology department started its work in conjunction with the surgery department. Cardiac anesthesiologists at Shaheed Rajaie Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center are specialists in the care of the adults and pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery and other interventional procedures on the heart. Cardiac anesthesiologists are well trained in cardiac anesthesiology and have expertise in intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (IO-TEE), heart transplant, extracorporeal circulation and pediatric and adult intensive care after cardiac surgery.

The anesthesiologists have experience in care of patients for all types of cardiac surgeries such as CABG, and valve repair or replacement and palliative and total correction operations for congenital heart diseases. Moreover, anesthesia/sedation care for cardiovascular interventions, electrophysiology and echocardiography procedures for both adults and pediatric will be provided by this team. The anesthesiologists are responsible for pre-operative workup of the patients, intraoperative anesthetic management and post-operative recovery. This department also provides coverage to 210 ICU and CCU beds and respiratory unit with more than 150 ventilator sets.

The department has educating program for both anesthesia residents and cardiac anesthesia fellowships. As well as, attending professors of the department contributing in educational programs for Master of Science students in ICU care and extracorporeal technology.
