Information Technology (IT) Department

Role and Administration

The Information Technology (IT) department has been active since **1996**. The administrative structure of the department includes the head of department, deputy head, division supervisor, and division engineers.

Hospital IT departments have an essential role to play in assisting hospital staff to manage and care for patients. These systems are so essential and ingrained into modern-day hospitals that it can literally be a matter of **life or death** if they stop working effectively.

The IT department is responsible for managing clinical software and the other processes that help administrative staffs to keep patient records and admissions systems ticking along. They also play an important role in ensuring medical wards, operating rooms and emergency departments run smoothly. Some of these functions include **health information management, ordering and receiving lab results**, and **specialized software for radiology**.

Specialized Systems Management

The radiology service and specifically the radiology services program is called **PACS**. **INFINITT PACS** is a world-class Pax system with a wide variety of functional and up-to-date tools. It is also a web-based system. Support, maintenance, and management of this software, including all **CT, MRI, Echo, X-ray and angiography services**, is the responsibility of the IT department.

This is in addition to the usual tasks an IT department performs such as **providing network infrastructure, IT security, server maintenance, and software deployments**. It is also responsible for **desktop support** and running the **help desk**.

Comprehensive Functions

The functions of this department also include:

  • Equipping all parts of the center with computer systems and their equipment.
  • Installation and support of all **Hospital Information System (HIS)** software.
  • Installation and support of the attendance system program.
  • Support sections of office correspondence software.
  • Installation and support of financial programs.
  • Preparing various management reports.
  • Website launch and support.
  • **24-hour support** for all center software and hardware.
  • Installation and support of all input and output devices such as printers and scanners and so on.
